COVID-19 Updates

As a dental practice, Cortez Dental is devoted to your safety and comfort. We follow federal and state guidelines for COVID-19 and invite you to learn the following about what we are doing to keep you protected during your dental appointments:

Patients:

  • Patients are asked symptom and exposure screening questions 24 to 48 hours before their appointments. Their answers are confirmed when they arrive at our office.
  • We ask that each patient call our office when they arrive for their visit so we can limit traffic in our reception area.
  • Temperatures are taken for all patients upon entry into the building.
  • Patients are required to always wear masks in the building except when they are in the dental chair.
  • If a patient has someone accompanying them on their visit, that individual is asked to go with them back into the treatment room rather than wait in the reception area.
  • Before their treatment, patients are asked to rinse with a mild mint hydrogen peroxide solution (Colgate Hydroxyl) that kills the SARS-CoV2 virus in 30 seconds.

Team Members:

  • Our clinical staff wear personal protective equipment (PPE), including face shields and surgical caps. Additionally, our team members change their outer layers (lab coat or gown) after every aerosolizing procedure.
  • Our business team members at the front desk wear masks at all times.
  • All uniforms and PPE are laundered on-site at our office.

Office Sterilization:

  • We use disinfecting procedures in addition to the universal hygiene precautions and sterilization standards that we have always had in our practice. Surfaces in the clinical areas have been treated with a special mechanical disrupting agent that kills viruses once it touches that surface.
  • Our office now has three medical-grade HEPA filters that filter the air: one in the reception area and two in the back clinical areas.
  • We use extraoral suction units (placed close to the dental chair) in our treatment rooms to capture the aerosols created during treatment.
  • We also use new disposable leaf-shaped high-volume continuous suction devices for hygiene patients to isolate secretions during treatment and minimize aerosol creation.
  • If you have any questions about our practices for COVID-19 in Cortez, Colorado, call our office at 970-565-9569 to learn more and schedule a visit with our dentist, Dr. Kevin Schade.
